Set 1 gets a lot of flack and largely unwarranted in my view. Memphis>711 is very nice and probably gets overlooked in light of the massive set2, in particular the pathway between the two songs is standout. Very Moon>Sound One...the same can be said. Very Moon is played to the note, and beyond with some great playing and improvisational towards the end, plus and segue into Sound One is seamless. Id definitely recommend checking out/relistening the end portion of the Very Moon -- you will be pleasantly surprised. Sound One lacks and is just an awful version -- listen at your own risk. After Sound One Spectacle is as pedestrian as any version you will hear as well. Lai brings the vibe back and makes an impact. Strong version, and more then anything yields an edict of the hot exploratory action soon to ensue.
Set 2 soars from the start with Story, or if you know whats good, an interplanetary oracle of bisco nastiness. Immensely awesome, expansive exegesis -- right up there with 9/1/01 as far best played versions are concerned. Overture is outrageous as well meshing impeccably with a fierce Robots fakeout. My favorite moment of the show however, is the Mindless which comes next. Dribble is dubbed out beyond belief, and beyond that is textured beautifully with a Pink Floyd like theme courtesy of Barber. Sweating Bullets compliments Dribble tremendously, almost as if they were meant to be played together, very cool bridge between the two songs. A rare stand alone Waves follows, played to the note. ATW is a on the little short side, but is ultra tight nonetheless -- it sounds just right, like it was meant to be played. Morph is mega and features the illest example of gates of hell Ive heard. Definitely a noteworthy versin...kind of tapers off towards the end...what you gone do. Humu was awesome choice to end an awesome show. Well played version, not as good as 5/7/04, but very good nevertheless, dropping into the end of 42 was a nice touch, and definitely deserves recognition.
Overall, great song selection, creative ambient jams, and just a great vibe are what this show is about. Check it out.
